Weston United Methodist Church welcomes our new Pastor, Rev. Dr. Jung Sun Oh

Rev. Oh with his wife Myung Kang moved to the parsonage on Conant Road on June 25, 2017.  They have two grown daughters, Esther Boram, Becky Aram.

Rev. Oh, as a Christian believer and ordained pastor, seeks a balance of personal holiness and social holiness. Every morning he practices his personal spiritual discipline with prayer, Scripture reading and listening, meditation with the singing of Taize songs, and sermon preparation.

For his personal spiritual growth, Rev. Oh has participated in a pilgrimage to the Taize Community in France each of the past four years.  He also practices communal or social spiritual discipline:  helping the needy in a local church and neighboring communities.

He follows the teachings and footsteps of Jesus Christ and John Wesley, the founder of Methodist Movement.  The main focus of his ministry and passion is “Celebrating Our Diversity and Unity in Ministry and Mission.”

With an undergraduate and graduate degree in South Korea, Rev. Oh continued his education in the United States, graduating from the Candler School of Theology of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in 1991, and received a Doctor of Theology with a concentration in Comparative Theology and Religious Ethics from Boston University School of Theology in 2000. He has served United Methodist Churches in Warwick, Rhode Island, Brunswick, Maine; Westfield, Massachusetts; and Roslindale Boston of the New England Conference.  Rev. Dr. Oh has also taught at Boston University School of Theology, Wellesley College, and Bowdoin College.

In 2013, Rev Oh received the “Wilbur C. Ziegler Preaching Award,” from the New England Conference, and the “2017 Distinguished Alumni Award” from the Boston University School of Theology.

As a grant writer and program director of “Sing a New Song Prophecy Initiative” of the New England Conference, Rev. Oh started three projects in the New England Conference:  1) Cultivating Young Leaders; 2) Supporting Cross-Racial and Cross-Culture ministry; 3) Supporting Grass Root Movement against Racism.  He has been a leading voice to support our LGBTQ sisters and brothers in the New England Conference and beyond.

All members of the WUMC community look forward to having Rev. Oh and his family living, ministering and working in mission with the faithful and committed members of the Weston United Methodist Church.
